“The Lord said, ‘Rise and anoint him; for this is the one.’ Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the presence of his brothers; and the spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David…” 1 Samuel 16:12-13
Many examples in the Bible illustrate to us how God drafts unsuspecting people for ministry. I can go through a litany of names that would illustrate this point. We have Moses who stuttered; Jeremiah who was too young; Jacob who was a cheat; and Peter who was hot tempered and a lowly fisherman.
However, the great difference between people like the mentioned above and others who choose not to be open to the call of God is about the heart. Individuals who commit themselves to the calling of God are people who see and experience God is ways earthly people can’t understand. Their heart literally beat to the drumming of God and nothing else.
The bottom line is wherever the heart is the willingness to be drafted into God’s mission field will be also. If the heart is with God, the mission field is the center of one’s life.
Where is your heart? Is it open to the calling of Christ and the mission field? If you don’t know, I invite you to pray and ponder on your willingness at this time to be drafted by God.
Prayer: “Dear Lord of my heart, mend our hearts so that we may be whole to do your work and mission. Amen.”
