Free Gift?

“But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died through the one man’s trespass, much more surely have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abounded for the many.” Romans 5:15

One day last November, I was given a tour of Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) by the Executive Director Michelle Shonbeck.  She gave me a thorough tour and afterwards, I asked what it takes for a person to receive the food they give out.  “they simply need to show up and ask for it.”

I have always found that the free gift of God is like that.  We need to ask for it and accept it as an unconditional gift of God’s unmerited grace.  The free gift of God is the gift of our salvation.  I have always thought that the gift of eternal life through the death and resurrection of Christ is much like our oxygen.  We do nothing to get it except breathe it but without it, we can’t live.  This unmerited gift is the joy in the knowledge that we rest in the eternal glory of Christ and without it, life would be pointless and worthless.

Dear Lord, thank you for your unmerited gift of Christ and may we always rest assured and be thankful for it. Amen.
